Zappa, Cramer in Golden Exhibit
A two-artist exhibition, featuring the pottery of Nick Zappa and paintings of Ronnie Cramer continues through the end of the month in the lobby of Evergreen Golden Savings and Loan's office.
The display is part of the institution's ongoing program focusing on the work of outstabnding area artists, said Golden Savings and Loan President Cecil Cooksey.
Zappa, a resident of Evergreen, offers an array of pottery and stoeware, featuring an eight place setting including individual pieces such as casseroles, pitchers,
jars and serving bowls.
While his work is functional, it is created with aestheitic flair.
Zappa employs a matte finish for his pottery which provides his work with a smooth surface without a shiny glaze.
Rich earthtone values further accent the functional yet aesthetic tenor of his art.
A native of Colorado, Zappa was graduated from Western State College in Gunnison with a BA in fine art.
His minor was philosophy. After graduation from Western State in 1974,
Zappa taught art at Evergreen Junior High before turning his talent to work as a full-time artist.
Zappa is also a regular exhibitor at many of the area's galleries including Gallery E in Evergreen and Earthworks and Morgan's galleries in Denver.
Ronnie Cramer, also an Evergreen resident, will display his most recent watercolors.
The muted tones of watercolors are particularly effective in Cramer's realistic portraits of old trains and a desrted water tower.
His sensitive style envelops these subjects in an atmosphere of nostalgia that reminds viewers of past eras whentrains were a vital part of American travel.
But Cramer's subjects are not limited to trains. He also has watercolor studies of sailboats and ocean scenes.
A native of Evergreen and graduate of Evergreen High School, Cramer has attended Denver University.
Besides watercolors, he works creatively in other mediums including pen, ink and pencil. Cramer is a gallery regular at Foothills Art Center in Golden.
